Portal Gun Mod for Gorilla Tag – Setup, Safety & Fixes

Portal Gun Mod is a fan-made PC mod for Gorilla Tag. We couldn’t find an official source page, author profile or changelog for it, so this page leaves out version numbers and feature claims we can’t check. It covers how PC mods like it load, where they work, and what usually breaks.

Portal gun mods for Gorilla Tag copy the idea from Valve’s Portal: shoot two linked portals and move between them. That’s teleport-style movement, so it belongs in private codes. Nobody in a public lobby will read it as anything but cheating.

How it loads

Setup is the standard PC routine. Install BepInEx 5.4.23.x (x64) and launch once, add Utilla if the mod needs it, then place the DLL in the plugins folder. Monke Mod Manager can install BepInEx and Utilla for you, but it won’t list most unofficial mods.

Common problems

Works only in modded rooms. If Portal Gun Mod depends on Utilla, it disables itself outside modded gamemodes on purpose.

Broke after an update. Game patches change the code mods hook into. If nobody maintains Portal Gun Mod, it stays broken. There’s no setting to fix that.

Nothing happens in-game. Open BepInEx/LogOutput.log and search for Portal Gun Mod. No mention means BepInEx never loaded it. Usually that’s the wrong folder, a missing dependency, or a build compiled against an older game.

Crash at startup. Take Portal Gun Mod out of plugins first. If the game starts, the mod is the problem. If it still crashes, update BepInEx: 5.4.22 and older crash on current builds.

Quest vs Steam

Short answer: only through a PC. The game has to be running on Steam with BepInEx; a Quest connected by Link or Virtual Desktop counts, a Quest on its own doesn’t.

Using it safely

Use it in a modded gamemode or a private room. Public lobbies are where reports happen, and the wiki is clear that no mod is risk-free.
