Monke Map Loader for Gorilla Tag – Legacy PC Custom Maps (v1.2.2)

Before Gorilla Tag had official custom maps, Monke Map Loader was how PC players got into community maps. Vadix88 started it as a solo experiment and it grew into a group effort. The README credits Bobbie (legoandmars), Steven (DeadlyKitten), RedBrumbler, ToniMacaroni and Graic.

What it added

• An in-game interface for choosing maps
• A fake “public lobby” matchmaking system for playing custom maps with others
• Gameplay tools map makers could build into their maps
• A ready-made Unity project with an automatic map export script

Dependencies

You need all of these before it’ll work:

• BepInEx (x64)
• Utilla

Install

Monke Mod Manager is the easy route and pulls in the dependencies. Manually: extract BepInEx into the game folder, run the game once, install each dependency as its own guide says, then extract the Monke Map Loader zip into the game folder.

Should you still use it?

For most players, probably not. Since October 2024 Gorilla Tag has had official custom maps through mod.io, played in the Virtual Stump from the Arcade in City. They work on Quest as well as PC and don’t need any of the libraries above. Monke Map Loader is still relevant if you want to play older maps that never moved to mod.io. Bear in mind its last release predates many game updates, so it may not run on the current version.
