Dark Menu for Gorilla Tag – Install, Safety & Fixes

Searches for Dark Menu turn up showcase videos and reposts, not a maintained official page. Because the feature list changes from build to build and none of it is documented in a place we can check, this guide sticks to verifiable ground: the PC loader setup, platform limits, the real ban risk, and fixes for the usual problems.
Installing a PC plugin like this
Setup is the standard PC routine. Install BepInEx 5.4.23.x (x64) and launch once, add Utilla if the mod needs it, then place the DLL in the plugins folder. Monke Mod Manager can install BepInEx and Utilla for you, but it won’t list most unofficial mods.
Malware warning
Mod menus are a common way to spread malware in this scene. The Gorilla Tag wiki specifically warns that some “menus” are remote-access trojans. Scan any download, never run an .exe that claims to be a menu, and be suspicious of anything asking for your Discord or Steam login.
Does it work on Quest?
Short answer: only through a PC. The game has to be running on Steam with BepInEx; a Quest connected by Link or Virtual Desktop counts, a Quest on its own doesn’t.
Public lobbies: don’t
Assume any menu used around other people can get you banned. That’s the game’s position (its terms forbid cheating) and the community wiki’s (“all mods come with a risk of a ban”). Features that affect other players are the most likely to get flagged.
Keep it to private codes and modded gamemodes, and never on an account you care about.
Common problems
Crash at startup. Take Dark Menu out of plugins first. If the game starts, the mod is the problem. If it still crashes, update BepInEx: 5.4.22 and older crash on current builds.
Nothing happens in-game. Open BepInEx/LogOutput.log and search for Dark Menu. No mention means BepInEx never loaded it. Usually that’s the wrong folder, a missing dependency, or a build compiled against an older game.
Broke after an update. Game patches change the code mods hook into. If nobody maintains Dark Menu, it stays broken. There’s no setting to fix that.
Defender removed something. BepInEx’s winhttp.dll proxy gets quarantined fairly often. Restoring it is fine if BepInEx came from its GitHub releases. A flagged menu DLL deserves more suspicion, not less.
