THE WAY UP – Gorilla Tag Gamemode by Typhoonly

THE WAY UP comes from mod.io creator Typhoonly. It’s a large gamemode for the official Gorilla Tag custom map system. Its listing describes it simply as “This map will give the players an option to do an obby (obstacle course) to train in playing the game, the map is user friendly with rules written on the tutorial in the start, if a player falls he will be teleported to the level he failed in.” The mod.io tags put it under minigames.

How to play THE WAY UP

Because it’s a mod.io gamemode, there’s nothing to sideload: Quest and PC players both get it through the in-game Virtual Stump.

1. Open mod.io/g/gorilla-tag/m/the-way-up-obby and hit Subscribe. Use the same mod.io login that your headset is linked to.
2. Head to the Arcade in City and put on one of the green headsets to drop into the Virtual Stump.
3. Not linked yet? The account screen in the Stump gives you a code to type in at mod.io/connect.
4. On the maps terminal, show installed maps only, pick THE WAY UP and load it. Expect a ~34 MB download the first time.

Custom maps aren’t available to accounts registered under 13.

Things worth knowing

• With competitive or minigame tags, sessions play better when everyone has already loaded the map before the round starts.
• The last update was August 15, 2025. Big Gorilla Tag updates can break older maps, so if it won’t load, check the mod.io page for a newer file or a note from Typhoonly.
