New York City Map for Gorilla Tag – Playing It Today
Unlike the maps you subscribe to in the Virtual Stump, New York City Map circulated as a downloadable map file. No current official page exists that we could verify, so here’s the honest picture of how legacy map files work and what to expect.
Can you still play it?
Standalone map files were built for the community Monke Map Loader, a PC BepInEx mod whose last release (1.2.2) is from June 2023. It needs BepInEx, Utilla, Computer Interface, Bepinject/Extenject and Newtonsoft.Json. Current game updates may stop it loading at all.
If you’re on Quest, or you just want something that works today, the official route is mod.io maps in the Virtual Stump (Arcade in City → green headset). Search mod.io for a remake of New York City before fighting with old loaders. Our Monke Map Loader page covers the legacy setup.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens in-game. Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log. If the plugin isn’t mentioned, it isn’t loading: wrong folder, missing dependency, or a build made for an older game version.
Only works in some rooms. Mods built on Utilla only switch on in modded gamemodes. That’s intended.
Worked last week, broken now. A Gorilla Tag update most likely changed something the mod hooks into. Unmaintained mods don’t get fixed; remove it and check for a newer build.
Antivirus deleted files. Windows Defender sometimes removes winhttp.dll (BepInEx’s loader). Restore it if you trust your BepInEx download. Treat a flagged mod DLL with more suspicion.
Using it safely
Stick to private codes and the Modded gamemodes. It’s not a competitive advantage tool, but any mod in public lobbies can draw reports.
Does it work on Quest?
It’s PC-only. Quest players can use it only when playing the Steam version through a cable or wireless PC link. Nothing installs on the headset itself.
