HARDBLOCK – Gorilla Tag Custom Map by MEGACHEB

HARDBLOCK comes from mod.io creator MEGACHEB. It’s a large map for the official Gorilla Tag custom map system. On its mod.io listing it’s summed up as “A port of the original “gkz_hardblock,” by me (MEGACHEB.) With some tasty visual remastering.“ The mod.io tags put it under competitive.

“GKZ_HARDBLOCK” was originally thought up by my friend while I watched him STRUGGLE FOR HIS LIFE on “gkz_beginnerblock” way back in the days of quest modding IN 2021. It quickly became one of the MOST POPULAR gorilla tag custom maps, opening up a lot of opportunities for me in this community, and then, I VANISHED with Apollo lmao

This rendition of the map is more BEAUTIFUL and BETTER, completely sticking to the original layout (WITH A NEW WAY TO BEAT IT 1-HANDED.) I’ve added some nice juicy visual touchups to everything in the map, from textures to particles.

NOTICE: The intermission triggered by landing on the 8th tower has been removed, due to object triggers no longer being in the set of tools provided to mappers. If they are added back, this too will be added back. And if you don’t like how the map looks now, what are you gonna do about it huh?

I might port more of my old maps in the future! If I feel like it :)

Getting into HARDBLOCK

You don’t install HARDBLOCK like a PC mod. Gorilla Tag downloads it for you once you’re subscribed, on Quest or PC.

1. Find HARDBLOCK on mod.io (mod.io/g/gorilla-tag/m/hardblock2) and subscribe, logged in with your linked account.
2. Head to the Arcade in City and put on one of the green headsets to drop into the Virtual Stump.
3. Not linked yet? The account screen in the Stump gives you a code to type in at mod.io/connect.
4. Use the terminal to filter to installed maps, then select HARDBLOCK and press load. Expect a ~11 MB download the first time.

Custom maps aren’t available to accounts registered under 13.

Things worth knowing

• It’s a light download (about 11 MB), so it loads quickly even on slow Wi-Fi.
• With competitive or minigame tags, sessions play better when everyone has already loaded the map before the round starts.
• The last update was October 16, 2024. Big Gorilla Tag updates can break older maps, so if it won’t load, check the mod.io page for a newer file or a note from MEGACHEB.
