Bikini Bottom SpongeBob Map for Gorilla Tag – Legacy Map File Guide

Bikini Bottom SpongeBob Map is a fan-made Gorilla Tag map that was shared as a standalone file rather than through the official mod.io system. We couldn’t find a current official listing for it, so this page explains what that means for actually playing it today.

Playing a legacy map file

Standalone map files were built for the community Monke Map Loader, a PC BepInEx mod whose last release (1.2.2) is from June 2023. It needs BepInEx, Utilla, Computer Interface, Bepinject/Extenject and Newtonsoft.Json. Current game updates may stop it loading at all.

If you’re on Quest, or you just want something that works today, the official route is mod.io maps in the Virtual Stump (Arcade in City → green headset). Search mod.io for a remake of Bikini Bottom SpongeBob before fighting with old loaders. Our Monke Map Loader page covers the legacy setup.

Quest vs Steam

BepInEx plugins only run on the PC (Steam) build of Gorilla Tag. A Quest can use them only while it’s streaming the PC game over Link, Air Link or Virtual Desktop. Standalone Quest can’t load them.

Troubleshooting

• Crash at startup: Take Bikini Bottom SpongeBob Map out of plugins first. If the game starts, the mod is the problem. If it still crashes, update BepInEx: 5.4.22 and older crash on current builds.
• Broke after an update: Game patches change the code mods hook into. If nobody maintains Bikini Bottom SpongeBob Map, it stays broken. There’s no setting to fix that.
• Works only in modded rooms: If Bikini Bottom SpongeBob Map depends on Utilla, it disables itself outside modded gamemodes on purpose.
• Defender removed something: BepInEx’s winhttp.dll proxy gets quarantined fairly often. Restoring it is fine if BepInEx came from its GitHub releases. A flagged menu DLL deserves more suspicion, not less.

Where to use it

Stick to private codes and the Modded gamemodes. It’s not a competitive advantage tool, but any mod in public lobbies can draw reports.
